Are you planning a trip to the mall? Here are 5 tips to help you prepare for your trip!

1. Set a BUDGET

For a lot of people, the word “budget” is often treated as a bad word. The reality of it though is that setting a budget will help you have an enjoyable and productive trip to the mall. Setting a budget is so important and is usually overlooked! So many people overspend at the mall because they haven’t set themselves with a limit. Make sure that you don’t buy more than you can afford. Most importantly, stick to your budget limit!

2. Bring CASH

Bringing cash to the mall is such a valuable tool! Research shows that we spend a lot more money when we are shopping with a card as opposed to cash. Shopping with a card leads to more impulse buys and less of a grasp on the reality of how much you are spending. Using your cash at the mall will help you stick to your budget as well!

3. Set a TIMEFRAME

Be sure to set a timeframe before you head over to the mall. How long are you willing to spend shopping? Without a set timeframe, you tend to meander around the mall, often resulting in more money being spent on impulse items. Once you have everything you need, go home! There’s no need to keep shopping. This tip will help you stick to your budget as well.

4. Ask yourself “Do I really need this?”

When we are at the mall, it is easy for us to buy impulsively. If we see something nice in the window, or a bunch of shoes on sale, we often feel tempted to buy. It’s a good idea to look at the items we are buying and ask ourselves, “Do I really need this?” You will save a lot of money by asking yourself this question while shopping at the mall.

5. Don’t buy just because it’s on SALE

Be careful for the word, “sale”. Just because an item is listed on sale, doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a good buy or that you need to buy it. The word “sale” is used to entice shoppers to buy items that are off season or items the store is trying to get rid of. Only buy something on sale when the item fits what you are looking for and within your budget.
