How you arrange your shop really has an impact on our sales and how many customers you bring in. Use your 5 senses as a guideline for arranging your shop!

• SIGHT

Show your customers the experience they are looking for! Lighting really sets the mood for your shop. When your customers walk into your shop, what do you want them to see? Give them an idea of what your product will look like. Have it out on display. Help them to visualize themselves with the product.

• SOUND

Pick your music wisely. Studies have shown that the volume and beat of music played can influence sales and customer behavior. The music playing in your shop really sets the atmosphere you are looking to create.

• TOUCH

Having your customers experience things ‘hands on’ really can enhance their shopping experience and increase your sales. Try to have things out on display that they can test and try out. Having them touch the product helps them to visualize them purchasing it.

• SMELL

Believe it or not, the smell of your shop all impacts your sales as well. You want to have a pleasant smell to your shop to entice customers to come in. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to have the shop overly perfumed, but you need to make sure that it is a welcoming scent.

• TASTE

Taste is another good sense to touch on if it applies to your shop. Are you selling a food or beverage? If so, be sure to have samples out that your customers can try to enhance their shopping experience. The more a customer has the chance to sample, the more likely they will be purchasing.

After applying these tips to arranging your shop, be sure to continue to be observant. Watch your customers. What areas of your shop are they drawn to? What kind of experience are they having? If you see there are areas that need improvement, don’t be afraid to make the changes. Applying all of these tips will help improve your customers’ experience and increase sales.
